All political parties condemned the dastardly Pulwama terror attack which was executed with support from across the border. The political leadership expressed their full support with the security agencies in fighting terrorism.

The all-party meeting was called by the government in the wake of the terror attack which claimed the lives of over 40 CRPF personnel. The aim of the meeting was to project one voice when the country was mourning the loss of lives. The meeting was chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and attended by house leaders of parties in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The political parties gathered here to present a picture of solidarity with the security forces.

A resolution was also passed at the meeting. “We condemn terrorism in all forms and the support being given to it from across the border... India has, during the past three decades, faced the menace of cross-border terrorism. Of late, terrorism in India is being actively encouraged by the forces from across the border. India has displayed both firmness and resilience in dealing with these challenges. The entire nation speaks in one voice to express its determination to fight these challenges. Today, we stand united in solidarity with our security forces in fighting terrorism and in defending the unity and integrity of India,” the resolution said.

The parties urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to call another meeting with heads of all political parties to deliberate on the response and the measures taken by the government to deal with the situation. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, after the meeting, said, “We have requested the home minister to urge the PM on our behalf to ask presidents of all national and regional parties for a meeting. This was supported by other parties, too. The entire nation is in mourning today, and is angry.”

“I had also said that barring war, for the first time since 1947, such large number of security personnel have been killed in an attack. We stand with our security forces - Army, CRPF, local police. The entire nation is standing with them,” Azad added.

Addressing the meeting, Rajnath Singh said the country will deal with the terrorists in the strongest possible means. He said the government has given free hand to the security forces to fight terrorism and bring the perpetrators to book.

Parliamentary Affairs minister Narendra Tomar said the government had a policy of zero tolerance to terrorism. Jammu and Kashmir residents who want peace are with us, but there were certain elements who support cross-border terrorism. Such elements are enemies of the state and youth.

Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena said, “Resolutions were passed after Pathankot and Uri attack also. We have told them (central government) that they should now take action.”

The meeting also comes in the wake of anger building up across the country to avenge the death of CRPF personnel. Funerals were being carried at native places of martyred jawans fuelling mourning and anger. Thousands gathered in the funerals to pay their last respects to the deceased personnel. The bodies had arrived on Friday from Kashmir.
