The Supreme Court on Thursday pulled up former CBI interim director Nageshwar Rao for transferring the investigating officer in the Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual abuse case. The court has issued contempt of court notice to Rao and summoned him for a personal appearance before the bench on February 12.

The apex court said that Rao has prima facie committed contempt of court by transferring CBI officer A.K. Sharma, who was probing Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case, without taking the court’s consent.

The court has also directed the CBI officer to give names of officers who were part of the process in transferring Sharma out of the probe agency.

When informed that two officials, including Rao, were involved in transferring Sharma, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said, "We are going to take it very very seriously. You have played with order of Supreme Court of India. God help you. Never play with SCs order".

Earlier in the day, the CJI had ordered the transfer of the Muzaffarpur shelter home case from Patna to Saket POCSO Court in New Delhi. It also ordered the judge to finish the hearing in six months.

Nageshwar Rao, who till recently served as the interim director of CBI, had faced stiff opposition from many quarter over his appointment to the post. Petition was filed in Supreme Court against his appointment by an NGO claiming that due process was not followed in selecting Rao for the post.
