NIA detains 10 persons with ISIS links in UP, Delhi

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested 10 people for ISIS links during raids conducted at 16 locations across Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi on Wednesday following intelligence inputs.

In a joint operation, the NIA and UP's Anti-Terror Squad  (ATS) nabbed 10 people described as ISIS modules and were said to be associated with ‘Harkat-ul-Harb-e-Islam’, a terrorist organisation that has links with the ISIS. Sources said large quantity of arms and explosives were recovered by the cops from the modules. Five of the 10 arrested were nabbed from western Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district, while the rest were detained from north-east Delhi with the help of Delhi Police's Special Cell.

Confirming the raids, Aseem Arun, IG of UP-ATS, said one module was arrested from a madarsa in Amroha while the remaining were picked up from other places. The arrests were confirmed and they were being interrogated till the publishing of this report. 

The raids were conducted in Saidpur village of Amroha district around 3 am on Wednesday. Seven places have been raided so far. During the raids, mobiles phones of local police were seized by the cops.

Recently, there were reports that UP was becoming a hub of terror modules of the ISIS. Areas in western UP were on intelligence agencies' radar following the reports. According to a home ministry report, maximum number of terror modules arrested in 2017 were from Uttar Pradesh.
