West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday termed the results of the assembly elections in five states as a real democratic indication of the “final match” in 2019.

“This is the semi-final of the final as the 2019 (general) elections will be held in next 2-3 months,” she said while talking to reporters in Kolkata.

As per the latest trends, the Congress was leading in the BJP-ruled states of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and was locked in a close fight in Madhya Pradesh while the TRS forged ahead in Telangana and the MNF in Mizoram.

“People are just waiting for the general elections to throw the BJP out. The countdown has started. It’s the beginning of the end,” Banerjee said.

Talking about the possibility to form a grand alliance to take on the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Trinamool Congress chief said her party has given full support to the Congress in this regard.

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Banerjee said in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the saffron party has failed miserably. “They have ruined democracy and hence people gave an answer. The BJP is unconstitutionally using the government agencies for their own motives,” she said.

Earlier, in a series of tweets, she said, "People voted against BJP. This is the people's verdict and victory of the people of this country. Victory of democracy and victory against injustice, atrocities, destruction of institutions, misuse of agencies, no work for poor people, farmers, youth, Dalits, C, ST, OBC, minorities and general caste.”
