The Bharatiya Janata Party has faced a major setback in the latest rounds of assembly elections in five states, touted to be a semi-final to the 2019 general elections. As per the latest trends, the Congress party is heading to a landslide victory in Chhattisgarh while maintaining a considerable lead in Rajasthan. In Madhya Pradesh, it is a neck-and-neck contest between the Congress and the BJP. All these three states were ruled by the BJP.

Meanwhile in Telangana, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has swept the polls while the Telugu Desam Party was reduced to just two seats. In Mizoram, the Mizo National Front swept the polls bagging 26 out of 40 constituencies, leading the Northeast "Congress-mukth".
