The Supreme Court has cancelled the admission to 550 seats in four self-financing medical colleges in Kerala. The Medical Council of India (MCI) had approached the apex court, challenging an order by the Kerala High Court that gave the nod for admission.

The admissions to Al-Azhar College in Thodupuzha, DM Medical College in Wayanad, PK Das Medical College in Palakkad andd SR Medical College in Varkala have been cancelled with Monday's verdict.

The apex court has upheld the MCI report that these colleges failed to met the necessary guidelines. It noted that the HC order went against the MCI observations.

The college managements and the state government had earlier informed the Supreme Court that the admission procedures were almost completed, but the court did not accept their view.

Last month, the SC had stayed the admissions to these four colleges and had observed that the students may have to abandon their seats.
