Bail plea dismissed; Bishop Mulakkal sent to 2-day police custody

Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who was arrested for allegedly raping a nun, has been sent to two-day police custody. The bishop, arrested on Friday night, was produced before the Pala district magistrate on Saturday. The court, dimissing Bishop Mulakkal's bail plea, sent him to police custody till September 24. 

The bishop, who strongly contended against this, alleged that the police forcibly collected his blood and saliva samples. 

The police arrested the bishop after questioning him for three days. He was then taken for a medical examination at the Thrippunithura taluk hospital. The 54-year-old clergyman while en route to Kottayam, complained of chest pain and was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College. According to police sources, the medical tests at Thrippunithura had revealed that the bishop's blood pressure was high.

The bishop was discharged and produced before the court on Saturday.
