The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea next week seeking CBI probe into the gangrape case allegedly involving BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district. The victim's lawyer had approached the apex court for a CBI inquiry and compensation for the family.
On Tuesday, the police arrested Atul Singh, Kuldeep Sengar's brother, in connection with the gangrape of the 18-year-old woman and the custodial death of her father. A Special Investigation Team was also formed to probe the incident.
"The Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional Director General (ADG) of Police (Lucknow zone) will go into the entire gamut of issues involved in the incident," ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar had said. A home department spokesman said a case had been registered against Atul Singh under various IPC sections including 302 (murder).

Meanwhile, Sangeeta Sengar, wife of the accused MLA, met DGP O.P. Singh in Lucknow on Wednesday. "I have come to plead for justice for my husband," she said.
The victim has alleged that she was raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brothers, and blamed the lawmaker for her father's death.
The BJP MLA, however, has rejected the charges as a "conspiracy" by his opponents.
As the incident sparked outrage, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday directed the home department to ensure that the SIT visits Unnao and submit a report by Wednesday evening.
