The Food and Drugs Administration, Maharashtra, in an official notice, informed the ban on the sale, distribution and use of 'Coldrif' syrup Batch no SR 13 with immediate effect.
As per the notice, the cough syrup has been allegedly adulterated with Diethylene Glycol (DEG), a toxic substance, prompting the officials to issue a ban order.

The move comes after several deaths of children were reported in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. People can report to the FDA directly if they are in possession of the cough syrup through the toll-free number 1800222365 or by email.
Meanwhile, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh governments too have issued orders banning the sale and distribution of ‘Coldrif’ syrup.
All drug inspectors and assistant directors have been instructed to immediately alert retailers, wholesalers, and hospitals to "freeze" any stocks of the product batch if available in the market.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George said a preliminary inquiry by the Drugs Control Department revealed that the flagged batch of the drug was not sold in the state.
"However, the Drugs Controller, out of concern for safety, has instructed drug inspectors to completely stop the distribution and sale of Coldrif," she said.
