What is Frontotemporal Dementia?

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a term for a group of brain diseases that mainly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, that are responsible for the personality, behavior and language skills of a person.

As per Mayo Clinic, in FTD,  parts of these lobes shrink, known as atrophy. The symptoms will depend on the part of the brain that is affected. Some might show personality disorders, while others might lose the ability to speak. Experts are not sure what causes the condition, while some believe genetic changes have been linked to the emergence of the disease. More research is being conducted to understand the condition.
