Apple TV has acquired the global streaming rights to "Dustfall", a six-episode Australian crime drama starring Emmy-nominated actress Anna Torv. The series is set to premiere on Apple TV in 2027 in most regions, bringing what is being touted as a gripping crime story to audiences around the world.
Based on Vikki Petraitis’s award-winning novel "The Unbelieved", "Dustfall" is described as an atmospheric crime drama set against the backdrop of Australia’s Gold Coast. The series follows Antigone “Tig” Pollard, played by Torv, an experienced detective investigating a disturbing sexual assault case.
The investigation takes a dark turn when a key suspect is found dead. As Tig searches for answers, she uncovers problems in the legal system and is forced to confront painful secrets from her own past. The story combines crime, mystery and personal drama, exploring difficult questions about justice and the truth.
The series was filmed on location along Australia’s scenic Gold Coast. Torv, known for her roles in "The Last of Us" and "Mindhunter", leads a cast that includes Juliet Stevenson, Alice Ansara and Finn Treacy.
Emma Freeman, who directed episodes for the shows "Interview with the Vampire" and "The Family Next Door", directs the series, reuniting with Torv after their successful collaboration on the three-season "The Newsreader". The television adaptation was written by BAFTA-nominated Dianne Taylor, alongside Stuart Page, Belinda Chayko and Beatrix Christian.
The release schedule varies by region. In Australia, "Dustfall" is scheduled to premiere on ABC TV on October 11, 2026, with episodes available on ABC iview. In the United Kingdom and Germany, the series is expected to arrive first on the BBC and ZDF, respectively, in late 2026 or early 2027, before becoming available on Apple TV. Viewers in most other regions can expect the series in 2027.
The deal also highlights Apple TV’s growing interest in acquiring successful international productions, alongside its original programming. By bringing "Dustfall" to a wider audience, the platform is expanding its selection of international drama and crime stories.
