AR Rahman’s son and playback singer AR Ameen sustained minor injuries in a car accident in Chennai. The incident took place near the Kathipara flyover on Sunday evening.
The road accident occurred while Ameen was allegedly travelling from Koyambedu. He was in a Porsche accompanied by his friend when a Wagon R entered from a side road. The car hit Ameen’s vehicle hard, injuring both him and his friend. The person travelling in the Wagon R was also injured.
Both the vehicles were badly damaged. The police have seized both vehicles and have started an investigation.
The Adyar Traffic Investigation police reached the spot and started rescue operations. Ameen and his friend, who sustained more injuries than Ameen, were rushed to Kaveri Hospital. After initial treatment, they were discharged and returned home.
On the other hand, the Wagon R driver was taken to the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital for treatment. Further details regarding the accident, such as what triggered the incident, are unknown. There have been no public statements from AR Rahman or his son.
The 23-year-old singer had his singing debut at the age of 12, when he sang his father’s rendition of the composition ‘Maula Wa Salim’ for the film ‘O Kaadal Kanmani’ directed by Mani Ratnam. Ameen frequently performs for Rahman’s music concerts and recently recorded a Tamil version of the ‘Chikiri Chikiri’ song from Peddi. He is well known for singing Bheegi Bheegi, a romantic single that stars Dulquer Salman and Mrunal Thakur.
