Netflix has set a July 22 premiere date for the French action-thriller series "Elite Force". Originally titled "G.I.G.N.", the eight-episode series was created by the team behind the two-season show "Ganglands". It centres on France's elite tactical police unit, the GIGN.

The story follows a senior GIGN officer preparing to leave active duty. However, just when he is about to retire, an unprecedented attack cripples his unit. Now forced into one final mission, he must confront dangerous enemies while navigating painful secrets from his own past. The series promises high-stakes action with personal drama, focusing on hostage rescues, counter-terrorism operations, and major security threats.

The cast includes Tomer Sisley, Rudgy Pajany, Philip Schurer, and Nicolas Wanczycki. With its mix of suspense, action, and emotional conflict, the makers of "Elite Force" aim to deliver an exciting thriller for international audiences.

It's worth noting that the creators' previous work, "Ganglands" (aka "Braqueurs"), fetched positive notice for its fast-paced storytelling, gritty realism, and intense action scenes. The series has a 7.2/10 user rating on IMDb and a 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many viewers have compared its style to "Gangs of London" because of its tense action and violent criminal conflicts.

"Ganglands" revolved around the exploits of Mehdi, a skilled thief who becomes trapped in a deadly war with a powerful drug lord while trying to protect his family. The show was based on the 2015 French action film "Braqueurs" ("The Crew"), which was co-created by Julien Leclercq and is also available on Netflix.
