After a slow first-week performance that witnessed daily earnings of a little over Rs 1 crore, Imtiaz Ali's "Main Vaapas Aaunga" has demonstrated a surprising turnaround at the box office during the second weekend, earning Rs 10 crore on Saturday and Sunday, taking the worldwide total to Rs 40.75 crore so far. It's been 10 days since the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer released in theatres.

Box office tracker Sacnilk showed that the period movie, which features Naseeruddin Shah in a scene-stealing performance, alongside Sharvari and Vedang Raina, collected Rs 29 crore in domestic gross and netted Rs 24.25 crore. Overseas, it collected Rs 11.75 crore.

Needless to say, a massive surge from a low first-week weekday average (Rs 1 Crore) to over Rs 4 Crore on a single day in the second weekend is a rare phenomenon, a textbook indicator of an organic box office turnaround which is similar to what was observed with other Hindi-language films like "Zara Hatke Zara Bachke" and "12th Fail".

The first film experienced a downward trend mid-week, wrapping up its first Thursday at Rs 3.24 crore and then saw an uptick in revenue in the second week — on its second Sunday,  it raked in Rs 7.02 crore net.

"12th Fail", on the other hand, hovered low around Rs 1.10 crore – Rs 1.30 crore net per day in the first week, and then in the second weekend, strong word-of-mouth catapulted it into an aggressive box office hit. The Vikrant Massey-starrer netted 4.30 crore on its second Sunday. It now eyes the lifetime domestic net collection of "Highway" (Rs 27.25 crore).
