"Maa Inti Bangaaram" is rewriting the records for modern female-led solo movies in South Indian cinema after "Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra". The Samantha Ruth Prabhu-starrer has collected over Rs 41.79 crore worldwide, showed box office tracker Sacnilk.
The cumulative total comes from a net domestic total of Rs 23.10 crore and gross of Rs 26.69 crore so far, after a three-day opening weekend.
Day 3 (first Sunday) showed a significant spike of 32%, collecting Rs 10.10 crore compared to the Rs 7.65 crore earned on the first Saturday.
The 41.79 crore worldwide opening weekend gross places "Maa Inti Bangaaram" above not only Samantha’s own previous solo benchmarks but also those of contemporaries who have ventured into the action thriller space.
Samantha's third film with director BV Nandini Reddy after "Jabardasth" and "Oh, Baby!", "Maa Inti Bangaaram" has given Samantha her biggest opening weekend as a sole lead actor-producer, completely outperforming her 2023 big-budget venture "Shaakuntalam". "Oh! Baby" had grossed Rs 17.00 crore worldwide in its first 3 days. While highly profitable (closing its lifetime around Rs 38 crore), "Maa Inti Bangaaram" has more than doubled the numbers. It also fared better than "Yashoda", Samantha's pan-India thriller.
In Telugu cinema, the benchmarks for solo female lead-driven movies include "Arundhati" and "Mahanati", with lifetime grosses of Rs 68.5 crore and Rs 84.5 crore, respectively. While Arundhati had a slower initial rollout in 2009 due to fewer screens, the relatively higher number of screens for "Maa Inti Bangaaram" has allowed it to collect nearly half of those lifetime totals in just 3 days.
Interestingly, its three-day performance is reminiscent of Nani's "Hi Nanna", which saw a similarly progressive increase in revenue in its opening weekend.
