The acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker behind "Bhoothakalam", "Bramayugam", and "Dies Irae" is set to embark on his biggest adventure yet. Rahul Sadasivan, who has by now firmly established himself as a horror master in Malayalam cinema (and one of the accomplished names in the genre in South Indian cinema itself), has found one of Hindi cinema's biggest producers to back his upcoming venture.
Karan Johar has announced that his Dharma Productions will produce Rahul Sadasivan's "Odiyan", starring superstars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Manju Warrier. Supriya Menon will jointly produce under Prithviraj Productions. The aim is for a pan-Indian reach, with the release planned in Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil.
In a social media post, Johar wrote: "We at @dharmamovies are taking our first step into the world of Malayalam cinema, and I am proud to announce that we have the best partners to do it with. Prithviraj, we’ve come such a long way with multiple collaborations behind us and hopefully many more ahead of us too. It gives us great pride to announce our film - Odiyan, directed by the supremely talented @rahulsadasivan_. His knack for eerie storytelling rooted in folklore is a feat in this age of cinema. Bringing this to life on screen is the exceptional @manju.warrier & of course, our favourite Prithviraj himself. Coming soon!"
Interestingly, "Odiyan" was also the name of another Manju Warrier-starrer led by Mohanlal. Since the title is associated with a popular folklore legend, one assumes that Rahul Sadasivan is going for his own fresh take on the material, with his own script.
