South Korean actor, who was last seen in the acclaimed horror blockbuster "Exhuma", is returning to the web series space with "Notes from the Last Row", which will land on Netflix on June 26. The show sees the "I Saw the Devil" actor's return to long-form storytelling after 2022's Disney+ series "Big Bet".
"Notes from the Last Row" revolves around a disgruntled literature professor and failed novelist who stumbles upon a secretive genius in the form of a student from his class's last row.
The series marks Choi Min-sik's collaboration with "Our Blues" and "The Trunk" director Kum Gyu-tae. Actor Choi Hyun-wook, known for his appearances in "Twenty Five Twenty One" and "Weak Hero Class 1", is playing Lee Kang in what is being described as a psychological drama. It is reportedly an adaptation of the Spanish play "The Boy in the Last Row" by Juan Mayorga.
As per the official logline on MyDramaList, the series revolves around Heo Mun-oh (Min-sik), a professor of Korean literature at a prestigious university who "lives without much achievement, forcing himself to endure disappointment and disgust toward students who cannot even complete a proper sentence. He can never forget the words of his successful writer friend, Kim Su Hun, who coldly evaluated his novels in his youth, and as a result, he became unable to write after that. While Mun-oh is burdened by insecurity and unfulfilled dreams, Kim Su Hun is laid-back and self-assured due to his fame. Su Hun was once the source of Mun-oh’s secret jealousy, leaving Mun-oh with a lingering sense of defeat. Things begin to unfold when Mun-oh begins special literature classes with Lee Kang, an engineering student with a hidden literary gift, whose brilliance reignites Mun-oh’s passion for writing. Under Mun-oh’s mentorship, Lee Kang embarks on an unpredictable journey, shaped by Mun-oh’s deep interest in his work."
