Riteish Deshmukh's "Raja Shivaji" has slowed down the box office, but maintaining a steady hold while entering its third week, even though its weekday figures have dropped to below Rs 2 crore (Rs 1.90 crore). In the preceding weeks, it was doing a daily business that stood above the 2-crore mark.
After a 14-day run, the film's total India net collections come up to Rs 76.95 crore so far, with approximately Rs 91.10 lifetime gross, showed box office figures reported by Sacnilk. It has now occupied the second place in the list of highest-grossing Marathi films, taking the place previously held by "Baipan Bhari Deva" (Rs 90.50 crore). It now eyes the lifetime gross of the reigning Marathi box office champ "Sairat" (110 crore).
As always, the primary revenue driver of "Raja Shivaji" is the regional audience more than the Hindi-speaking viewers. The Marathi version brought in Rs 53.15 crore net of its total revenue while its Hindi dubbed counterpart contributed a modest Rs 21.90 crore net. It still continues to run on as much as 3,836 shows nationwide, unlike standard mid-budget Hindi releases that often see a decline in the number of showings by the second week due to rapid audience drop-offs. "Raja Shivaji" has the reported advantage of many single screens in Maharashtra to keep the momentum going.
Reportedly built on a budget of around Rs 75–100 crore, the movie, which also features Sanjay Dutt, Genelia Deshmukh, Vidya Balan, and Salman Khan in a cameo, is said to have managed a decent ROI (Return on Investment) within 12 days.
