Dhanush's 'Kara' holds steady at domestic box office, earns better than 'Idli Kadai' overseas

Directed by Vignesh Raja, "Kara" did not perform as expected compared to Dhanush's most recent hits. "Raayan", which the actor starred in and directed, did the highest opening weekend numbers

Dhanush's "Kara" may not have opened as strongly as its most recent releases — most notably "Idli Kadai" — but the film is holding steady at the domestic box office, earning about Rs 5 crore on its fourth day.

In terms of net earnings in India, the heist thriller directed by Vignesh Raja has earned approximately Rs 23.35 crore, and Rs 26.99 crore in domestic gross.

Interestingly, "Kara" fared better than "Idli Kadai" overseas in four days, with a cumulative gross of Rs 9.15 crore so far, compared to Rs 5.10 crore of Dhanush's last film.

Combined with the international figures, the movie has officially crossed the Rs 35 crore mark worldwide, sitting at Rs 36.14 crore, according to Sacnilk box office numbers.

However, when compared to the higher opening-weekend benchmarks of Dhanush's recent directorial and starring ventures, "Kara" falls short. And considering the film’s budget, said to be about Rs 100 crore, it will need to up its numbers in the coming days if it wants to be a profitable enterprise.

"Raayan", which Dhanush starred in and directed, performed far better, collecting approximately Rs 87 crore worldwide in its first four days.

"Kuberaa" crossed Rs 55 Cr in India net alone by day 4; its worldwide gross was well over Rs 70 crore in the same period.

"Captain Miller" grossed about Rs 50.69 crore to Rs 59.63 crore worldwide by its fourth day, becoming the first Tamil film of 2024 to enter the Rs 50 Cr club.

"Idli Kadai"  earned over Rs 40 crore globally in four days.

"Kara" also falls behind  Dhanush's most celebrated recent hit, "Thiruchitrambalam", which grossed over Rs 50 crore worldwide in its first four days, driven by family audiences.
