Shahid Kapoor's latest release, "Cocktail 2", is demonstrating an impressive run at the box office, with the worldwide gross already hitting the 100 crore milestone (est. Rs 126.85 crore) in just 10 days, as per Sacnilk box office figures. In India, the total gross number will cross Rs 100 crore by the second Monday. The domestic net is now at Rs 83.15 crore. The aforementioned global total includes the overseas total of Rs 27.60 crore.
In 10 days, "Cocktail 2", featuring Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon, has officially outpaced the domestic net lifetime earnings of the original 2012 "Cocktail" (Rs 71 crore) starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, aside from the worldwide total (est. 123 crore) It has already done better than the actor's other recent films such as "O Romeo".
However, it trails behind Shahid Kapoor’s career-defining blockbusters, such as "Padmaavat" and "Kabir Singh". The latter still stands as Shahid's highest-grossing solo hit, unlike "Padamaavat", which co-starred Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
"Cocktail 2" is now very close to another Shahid and Kriti Sanon hit, "Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya", which finished its lifetime run at Rs 133.64 crore worldwide; it should do this in a couple of days.
The box office performance of "Cocktail 2" follows the pattern seen in other Bollywood rom-coms like "Zara Hatke Zara Bachke" and "Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar". These movies were welcomed by multiplex audiences, contributing to the strong weekend surges and decent weekday earnings. In the case of "Cocktail 2", it has been maintaining a daily collection of over Rs 4 crore, which is a healthy sign for a movie that the majority of critics didn’t warm up to. However, the audiences have shown that such enterprises are review-proof.
