Dhanush's new film "Kara" has registered the lowest opening collection compared to his most recent outings. However, when looking at the daily earnings from the first two days, the numbers are solid, with a business of just over Rs 6 crore on both days.

On Day 1, the Vignesh Raja-helmed thriller raked in Rs 6.20 crore and Day 2 recorded Rs 6.95 crore, in terms of domestic net collection. The second-day collection saw an improvement of 12.1%, according to box office tracker Sacnilk. Its India gross collection now stands at Rs 15.20 crore, and Rs 13.15 crore in total net earnings so far.

Combined with the cumulative overseas gross of Rs 5 crore, the worldwide total collection stands at Rs 20.20 crore. The two-day collection is significantly lower than two of Dhanush's most recent releases, "Kuberaa" (Rs 50 crore) and "Raayan" (Rs 48 crore).

When looking at the first-day numbers, they are lower than those of films like "Idli Kadai" (Rs 11 crore), "Kuberaa" (Rs 14.75 crore), and "Tere Ishk Mein" (Rs 15.81 crore). "Karnan" (Rs 10.40 crore).

Several factors may have contributed to the low figures. We must note, however, that the film's release on Thursday, April 30, 2026, coincided with election day in Tamil Nadu. Political activity and voter turnout significantly diverted public attention, leading to lower footfall in theatres during the crucial morning and afternoon shows.

Some have also cited the weak promotional efforts. Unlike major commercial hits like "Raayan", "Kara" arrived with relatively low hype and a "niche treatment" that didn't immediately draw the attention of the mass audience.

The lengthy, nearly three-hour runtime could also be a factor, aside from the melodramatic treatment in the film's early portions.

Some viewers have pointed out the "slow-burn" storytelling and lack of the "entertainment" factor compared to some of Dhanush's recent crowd-pleasers.
