Rodri coming to Real Madrid from Manchester City means Manchester United can have Aurélien Tchouaméni for £68 million (€60 million), a report claimed.
Real Madrid manager José Mourinho wanting Yan Diomande to further bolster his attack is said to have sealed Tchouaméni's fate. Real Madrid having to spend €100 million in an effort to rope in Diomande means another sale became a must. Thus, to ensure the double signing takes place smoothly, Tchouaméni was reportedly let go.
Manchester United were looking at Frenchman Tchouaméni as the perfect replacement for Casemiro, who left the club as a free agent. The 26-year-old is a cheaper option when compared to other CDM options available on the market, and United were hell-bent on not breaking the bank on a midfielder.
It was earlier reported that José Mourinho had spoken to Tchouaméni and, even if he is ultimately let go, the decision will not be made before the transfer deadline is close. Mourinho demanding another speedster in the attacking ranks and preferring Ivorian Diomande is said to have changed everything.

Rodri's arrival is not going to be a landmark deal in terms of finances but will not be cheap. Leipzig's teenage sensation Diomande being chased by PSG and Liverpool meant Real had to splash some serious money to seal a deal. However, if this ambitious move fails to materialise, it remains unclear if Tchouaméni will be retained by the Spanish giants.
Earlier, the likes of noted transfer expert Fabrizio Romano have spoken about Tchouaméni having already agreed on a contract extension with Real Madrid until 2029, if not 2031. The former Monaco player's current deal is set to expire in mid 2028.
Manchester United are on the hunt to rope in a third midfielder after Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos for a combined £85 million. Tchouaméni has been linked to Manchester United for some time now alongside fellow French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
