Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson's ‘Verity’ just got its first trailer

An adaptation of Colleen Hoover's darkest book, “Verity” is the newest book-to-screen adaptation of the bestselling author's work after “It Ends With Us”, “Regretting You”, and “Reminders of Him”

Amazon MGM Studios dropped the first teaser for "Verity" on April 27, and it is already giving fans a lot to talk about. The film is based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling thriller of the same name.

Directed by Michael Showalter, “Verity” hits theatres on October 2, 2026.

Hoover wrote the novel in 2018 and self-published it before Grand Central Publishing picked it up in 2021. It went on to become a New York Times bestseller, selling more than one million copies in 2023 alone.

Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired by Jeremy Crawford, played by Josh Hartnett, to complete the remaining books in his wife Verity's series after she is left unable to write after an accident. Moving into the Crawford home to get the work done, Lowen quickly realises the job is far more complicated than she signed up for.

This is not your typical Hoover adaptation, as films such as “It Ends With Us” and “Reminders of Him” leaned into romance and heartbreak, but “Verity” teases a much darker story. The film has been described as a gothic, psychosexual thriller. Hathaway's performance already looks like the kind that will have people talking long after they leave the cinema.

Michael Showalter directs from a script by Nick Antosca. The cast also includes Ismael Cruz Córdova and Brady Wagner. “Verity” follows the success of “It Ends With Us”, “Regretting You”, and “Reminders of Him” as the latest Hoover book to make it to the big screen.
