Last year, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the team behind Steven Spielberg's iconic horror classic "Jaws" announced that a 4K remastered version of the film would be arriving in not just the regular formats, but on IMAX screens, too. However, Indian audiences were disappointed when they realised that it was only arriving in American movie screens, running from August 29 to September 4, 2025.

Now, almost a year later, here’s something for Indian cinephiles to rejoice! PVR INOX has announced that the same 4K remastered "Jaws" will be hitting select screens run by the chain on April 17.

The re-release is said to be part of an initiative to screen old classics in remastered form on Indian screens. The most recent example was the Julie Andrews musical "The Sound of Music".

In an official statement, Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist, PVR INOX Limited, said, "We are constantly looking at ways to enrich our programming. The return of 'Jaws' is a testament to the growing audience appetite for immersive, high-impact storytelling. It's a film that comes alive in a theatre, where sound, scale, and shared anticipation elevate the experience."

Based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, "Jaws" was a cause of much distress for Spielberg owing to the various production troubles that the now-celebrated versatile filmmaking giant suffered as a young filmmaker at the time.

However, all that effort paid off when the film turned into one of the biggest blockbusters of all time, dominating the charts as a box office titan until best friend and colleague George Lucas' "Star Wars" came along two years later.

The screen adaptation was co-written by Benchley and Carl Gottlieb.

"Jaws" was elevated by a strong list of 1970s acting legends — Roy Scheider ("The French Connection", "Sorcerer"), Richard Dreyfuss ("Close Encounters of the Third Kind"), and Robert Shaw ("The Sting", "The Taking of Pelham 123").
