Those who couldn't get enough of Akshaye Khanna in "Dhurandhar" — and missed his magic in "Dhurandhar 2" — should have something to rejoice.
The chameleonic actor known for taking on intense personas is back with another unrecognisable character in a mythological epic based on an iconic figure — Shukracharya, the powerful teacher of the asuras (demons) in "Mahakali".
It marks Khanna's maiden Telugu feature, which is expected to be released in Hindi too, considering the “Dil Chahta Hain” actor’s renewed popularity following the massive success of “Dhurandhar” in the South market. It goes without saying that "Mahakali" will be eagerly awaited for his presence aside from the big promises offered by the cinematic universe.
As in “Chhaava”, we see a different side of Khanna, whose dramatic appearance, complete with a flowing white beard and hair, was first teased in a first-look poster. However, we got a better look at the actor in full costume when Prasanth Varma shared a behind-the-scenes still on the occasion of Khanna's birthday.
Varma called Khanna a "true actor who proves that real talent doesn't need noise", adding that the actor stands out with "effortless screen presence, powerful performances, and unmatched class."
Khanna has reportedly completed filming his portions in the much-anticipated epic.
In a social media post, Varma posted the picture with the caption, "It's an absolute honour working with you. Can’t wait to show the world what we’ve created together!"

"Mahakali" features Bhoomi Shetty as the lead, playing the titular goddess role. It is being touted as a female superhero movie, which is part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), which was launched with "Hanu-Man" in 2024.
Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, "Mahakali" was written and conceptualised by Prasanth Varma, who directed "Hanu-Man". The PVCU also includes the superhero fantasy "Adhira", headlined by S.J. Suryah and Dasari Kalyan, and directed by Sharan Koppishetty. Rishab Shetty's "Jai Hanuman", directed by Varma himself, is also part of the universe.
