We have heard of more than one film in a big Hollywood franchise doing a business of $1 billion or more, but what about Indian movies — if we are going to talk in terms of crores?
The "Dhurandhar" franchise is now officially the first Indian movie franchise to have two entries crossing the 1000-crore mark.
In one week, "Dhurandhar 2" has already beaten the India total of its predecessor and is set to beat its lifetime gross in the next couple of days.
It has now also beat the lifetime gross of "Jawan", "Animal" and "Pathaan". As for the total Indian collection so far, as of Day 9, is Rs 807.28 crore.
It's a figure that places "Dhurandhar: The Revenge" above "Dangal", "Stree 2", "Jawan", "Pathaan", and "Kalki 2898 AD" in terms of the overall gross in India alone.
It remains to be seen if it can beat the India record of movies like its predecessor, along with "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion", "Pushpa 2: The Rule", "KGF: Chapter 2", "RRR".
It must be noted that while "Pathaan" and "Dangal" fell short of ₹800 crore within India, they both did massive business globally. "Pathaan" became the first original Hindi-language film to cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark worldwide without a China release, while "Dangal" became the first Hindi-language movie to collect Rs 2000 crore globally after its China release.
