Amid record-breaking box office run, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has landed in legal trouble for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of the Sikh community.

The complaint was filed by the organisation, Sikhs in Maharashtra, against actor Ranveer Singh, director Aditya Dhar and producers Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar at Mulund police station in Mumbai.

In a poster of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, Ranveer is shown wearing a turban, long beard, and 'kada' (bracelet). The organisation pointed out that these are considered sacred symbols of the Sikh community.

Sikhs in Maharashtra alleged that Ranveer is seen holding a cigarette in his hand and it has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.

Though police were yet to register an FIR when this article was published, police said they are investigating the allegation.

Earlier, R. Madhavan also faced accusatons of hurting religious sentiments for allegedly smoking while reciting lines from Guru Gobind Singh's Dasam Granth.

"On behalf of Dhurandhar’s entire family, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for showering us with so much love. Recently, we’ve learned that some people have been hurt by the fact that in one scene of this film, while reciting lines from Guru Gobind Singh’s Dasam Granth, I smoked a cigarette, and it pained them. I assure you, this is absolutely not right," he said in a video posted on Instagram.

"There’s a slight misunderstanding. I am absolutely certain that before this scene, before saying this line, Aditya Dhar ji—who pays more attention to all these things than I do—told me to put out the cigarette well before delivering this line. So, no smoke would come out of your mouth, nor would there be any smoke on screen, and you wouldn’t have a cigarette in your hand. Because this is extremely sacred and pure for us," he added.

Dhurandhar 2 has netted Rs 593.97 crore in the domestic box office and grossed Rs 709.02 crore nationally. It is currently running across 12,439 shows, according to Sacnilk. In worldwide collection, it has already earned Rs 919 crore.

Earlier, Ranveer Singh was slapped with an FIR for calling 'Chavundi Daiva', a deity of coastal Karnataka shown in Kantara Chapter 1, as a ghost during the Filmfare Award event in 2025. Senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, who filed the complaint, alleged that this religious sentiments were hurt.

A bench, while hearing the matter, said Ranveer's remarks were inappropriate. "What Ranveer did is not right There must be a sense of remorse. Actors have a strong influence on people," the court said.
