We had reported earlier that Imtiaz Ali, who worked with Diljit Dosanjh in "Amar Singh Chamkila", is reuniting with the actor-singer in a feature co-starring Vedang Raina, Sharvari, and Naseeruddin Shah. The makers announced the title on Friday -  "Main Vaapas Aaunga".

The film, billed as a love story, is backed by Applause Entertainment, the company behind shows highly acclaimed shows like "Black Warrant" and "The Hunt - The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case", and films like "Do Aur Do Pyaar" and "Sharmajee Ki Beti", in association with Window Seat Films and Reliance Entertainment.

The project, currently in post-production, is aiming for a June 12, 2026 release.

In an official statement, Imtiaz Ali said the story has a "large canvas, yet is very personal."

"It is a story of a boy and a girl, but also a country," he further added. "Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone's heart? This is a film that I feel fortunate to be working on. It's about what is left with us when everything else is lost. The love that refuses to be left behind guides us through the highs and lows of life and remains the everlasting song on our lips and smile in our hearts."

Sameer Nair, managing director of Applause Entertainment, added that the project is a natural fit for the company's big-screen ambitions, calling it a "romance for the ages."

AR Rahman, the other collaborator of Imtiaz from "Amar Singh Chamkila", composed the music to Irshad Kamil's lyrics. They previously collaborated on "Rockstar", "Tamasha", and "Highway".

Imtiaz last directed the segment 'Jules' from the anthology "My Melbourne". He was also one of the cast members of Anurag Basu's "Metro... in Dino".
