After a brief hiatus of a little over three years, South Korea's biggest boy band BTS is gearing up for their grand stage comeback. Scheduled for March 21, this performance will be streamed live for global audiences subscribed to Netflix.
The members comprising RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook will perform at the historic Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. This performance will also introduce fans to music from the upcoming album ARIRANG, their fifth, before it hits the shelves on March 20. The trailer of the live performance has been released.
Accompanying this streaming event will be the documentary BTS: THE RETURN, which will give a comprehensive look at the making of ARIRANG and the journey of the band so far. It is directed by Bao Nguyen and produced by This Machine.
Members of the BTS were on a three-year break prior to 2025 as they were required to undergo compulsoary military service of 18 months. They had put a lid on all activities in 2022 for this reason.
In 2024, Jin and j-hope were discharged from sevice, followed by RM, V, Jimin, and Jung Kook in June 2025, with SUGA being the last one to return on June 2025.
Regarded as one of the most relatable — and for some, therapeutic — bands, BTS made waves across the globe with biggest selling chartbusters such as their breakout hit "DNA" from Love Yourself: Her (2017) — it was the first K-pop group music video to exceed 1 billion views — followed by other smash singles such as "Fake Love" (Love Yourself: Tear, 2018) and "Boy With Luv" featuring Halsey (Map of the Soul: Persona, 2019).
Map of the Soul: 7 (2020) also comprised global hits like "On" and "Dynamite," their first English-language single.
Their 2020 album BE featured the blockbuster "Life Goes On."
"DNA" was the first song by a Korean group to simultaneously enter the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, staying on the Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks.
