Kannada actress Kavya Gowda and her husband have both been admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru after they were violently attacked by relatives in a family dispute. Her husband, Somasekhar, was reportedly stabbed during the incident, and the actress was threatened with rape.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at the actress’s residence in Bengaluru.
As per the complaint filed by Bavya Gowda, her sister called her multiple times in the evening to inform her that she was threatened and physically assaulted.
She said that the accused restrained, abused, and assaulted the actress and her husband and even threatened to kill them.
Several family members, including Somasekhar’s brother Nandish, his wife Prema and other relatives, are said to have been involved in the incident.
Sources told local media that the relations were strained between Kavya Gowda and her sister-in-law, Prema, as the two brothers and their families lived together.
The dispute escalated on January 26 when both women’s families visited the house. An argument broke out.
The altercation between the relatives began as a verbal confrontation but soon escalated into physical violence. During the violent confrontation, Somasekhar was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by Ravikumar, Prema’s father. He was rushed to the hospital. Doctors say that his condition is currently stable.
Ravikumar also allegedly threatened Kaya with rape and used obscene language to verbally abuse her.
The complaint filed mentioned that the assault may have also been triggered due to her popularity as a television actress.
Police have begun a probe into the incident after an FIR was filed. Preliminary investigation suggests that the conflict began due to long-standing family disagreements while living in a joint family setup.
The triggers were issues related to household matters and the care of Kavya Gowda’s younger daughter.
Sources say that counter-complaints have also been filed from the other side. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the house and recording statements from everyone involved.
Kavya Gowda is a Kannada television actress and rose to fame through her roles in serials like Radha Ramana and Gandhari.
