The famous 'Monday test' is on for The Raja Saab and early signs are that the film is headed for a shocking day at the domestic box office. The cracks were evident for the Prabhas starrer with the big drops on Saturday and Sunday, but there was optimism of some stability on its fourth day. However, that is not probable from the early trends.
The horror-comedy fell by 45 percent on its second day and further by 20 percent on Sunday despite getting the advantage of a weekend factor. On Monday, the advance booking figures had already indicated at a monstrous fall and early estimates hint at a figure well below double digit in the Telugu states.
Data estimates till 5 pm have shown a drop of 75 percent from Sunday and this is tragic news for The Raja Saab makers. The three-day worldwide gross of the film stands at Rs 145 crore with overseas territories showing similar negative trend for the film. The incoming Sankranti holidays will help the film to cross the Rs 200 crore mark globally but that is only damage control.
The Raja Saab is made at a reported budget of Rs 300-400 crore and needs a lot more to even break-even, let alone get blockbuster status. The fourth day collections in India is set to be around Rs 8-9 crore gross, with minor variations expected depending on how the evening and night shows fare.
Overseas, The Raja Saab opened with $2.62 million on its opening day including Thursday night premieres but it has fallen off the cliff thereafter across all territories. Prior to release, a lifetime figure of $10 million seemed a given but for now, even $5 million will be a stretch.
