Two people were arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly posting vulgar posts targeting actor Darshan Thogudeepa's wife Vijayalakshmi.
The Kannada actor's wife lodged a complaint on December 24 at the Cyber Crime Police Station in December, following which an investigation was launched.
Vijayalakshmi alleged that several users were posting "low-level obscene and derogatory" content targeting her and her family on various social media sites. She then sought legal action against at least 18 users for circulating these abusive posts.
The latest arrests come after police identified two of the culprits. One of them was identified as Nithin, 31, a techie from Davanagere while the other was Chandrashekar B, 45, an autorickshaw driver from Chikkabanavara. They send the derogatory posts on Instagram and Facebook.
Police said that efforts are on to nab the remaining accused as the probe is ongoing.
Actor Darshan was arrested in June 2024 over alleged murder of his fan, Renukaswamy, who allegedly sent obscene messages to his friend Pavithra Gowda. Pavithra is the prime accused as she instigated the other accused and took part in the crime.
Raghavendra, who is part of Darshan's fan club in Chitradurga, convinced Renukaswamy to come to RR Nagar, Bengaluru, to meet the actor. They brought him to a shed where they allegedly tortured and murdered him.
There are 17 accused in the case, including Darshan and Pavithra. They are jailed at the Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bengaluru.
