When the stars align for you, anything and everything seem possible. The converse is also true. When things are going bad, it can all go pear-shaped out of nowhere. Vijay, one of Kollywood's biggest superstars, was ruling the roost not so long ago. In fact, he is still arguably the biggest star in the industry on current form. However, things haven't been the same since he took the politics route.
Tamil Nadu's Thalapathy had announced Jana Nayagan as his farewell film from the industry in 2024 itself with a decision to focus solely on his political career. The decision took everybody including his fans by surprise even though it had seemed inevitable over the years. Earlier this year, Jana Nayagan was announced as the actor's 2026 Pongal release, scheduled for a January 9 release.

Pongal, like Diwali, is a huge box office window for Tamil films and Vijay's movies have traditionally registered massive numbers in recent years during these festivals. However, it now seems like Jana Nayagan may have a change in its release date. The current public sentiments around Vijay are a mixed bag after the unfortunate incidents at his TVK party's rally in Karur.
Initially, the first song from Jana Nayagan was supposed to be released for Diwali with more promo materials planned in the succeeding weeks. However, the film's producers KVN Productions has decided to indefinitely postpone all promotional activities related to the film with no clarity about the future.

Jana Nayagan's release date hasn't been changed yet but with such a decision taken by the producers, it seems unlikely that the Vijay-starrer would release for Pongal. Unless the superstar himself decides maintain a low-profile himself and wants a silent release for his film. This again seems unlikely, given that he is a big superstar and a lot of money generally rides on his films.
As of now, there is no official announcment of a change in release date. A clearer picture shall arrive in the coming days. Jana Nayagan is directed by H Vinoth with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
