The Kantara: Chapter 1 juggernaut is off and running. After a staggering opening day across India, the glowing word-of-mouth has ensured a sensational weekend for the Rishab Shetty-starrer as it sets new benchmarks at the box office. The primary milestone, as expected, is in its core market - the Karnataka Box Office.

On its opening day (October 2), Kantara: Chapter 1 emerged the no.2 grosser of all time, grossing Rs 22 crore which included Rs 3.75 crore of paid previews from October 1. KGF 2, which grossed Rs 24.5 crore on its opening day, continued to stay at no.1 for the biggest opening day at the Karnataka box office.

However, the sensational word-of-mouth has powered Kantara: Chapter 1 across the next three days to beat KGF 2 for the biggest opening weekend of all time. Coincidentally, both teams had a four-day extended weekend owing to being a Thursday (Holiday) release and the Shetty-starrer has edged out Yash's action entertainer by a slender margin.

Kantara: Chapter 1 held very strongly on Friday, grossing Rs 16.5 crore and then showed an expected upward trend across the weekend. Saturday's figures came to Rs 18 crore while Sunday went even higher, nudging the Rs 19.50 crore mark. This takes the four-day Karnataka gross of the film to Rs 76 crore approximately, overtaking KGF 2 which had collected Rs 75.50 crore in its opening weekend.
