It seems Netflix and "The Night Agent" creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan has no intention of keeping it running longer than necessary. Ryan and Netflix confirmed that the show will end the fourth season, filming for which has already commenced in Los Angeles, unlike seasons 2 and 3, which were shot in New York.
Gabriel Basso will be reprising his lead character Peter Sutherland, joined by some new members in the cast aside from some returning members. The additions to the fourth season are Titus Welliver, Li Jun Li, Trevante Rhodes, and Elizabeth Lail. Welliver, who is already known for being associated with another major thriller series, "Bosch" and its spin-off, will play a special DOJ (Department of Justice) prosecutor named Duval.
In an official Netflix statement, Ryan shared that the plan to give the show a reasonable conclusion was being worked on in his mind for a while. “Ever since the initial success of 'The Night Agent', I’ve been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland’s journey,” he said, assuring fans that the final season will be one worth remembering.
“I’m so grateful to Netflix and Sony Pictures Television for partnering with me on 'The Night Agent' and for giving us the space to deliver a definitive final season to our worldwide legion of fans. We are hard at work to complete our story and to make our final season one our fans will never forget,” he added.
As many who have already completed Season 3 know, Sutherland had quite an overwhelming mission to deal with, and the makers had already teased, with the finale of the last season, that it was meant to be a jumping off point for the next and final season.
The first season saw Sutherland investigating a conspiracy involving a mole in the Oval Office and a subway bombing. Alongside tech CEO Rose Larkin, he exposes high-level traitors to save the President. Season 2 saw his promotion to an active 'Night Agent', and followed his attempts to track a CIA leak and stolen experimental weapons from Bangkok to New York, racing to stop a mass-casualty attack. In Season 3, Sutherland hunts a rogue Treasury agent in Istanbul while collaborating with a journalist. In the middle of uncovering a deep-money network, he stumbles upon a shocking corruption tied to his father’s past.
