Kantara: Chapter 1 is creating waves at the box office worldwide. This Rishab Shetty-starrer, which is a prequel to his 2022 release Kantara, has taken a sensational opening at the box office worldwide. Released on October 2, the epic mythological drama has garnered extremely positive reviews and it is translating into sensational numbers across the board.
The extended four-day weekend gross of Kantara: Chapter 1 is approximately Rs 322 crore worldwide, becoming only the second film to breach the Rs 300 crore mark in its opening weekend after Rajinikanth's Coolie. The Lokesh Kanagaraj-directorial had a five-day extended weekend and touched Rs 385 crore gross worldwide.
In Karnataka, Kantara: Chapter 1 recorded the biggest weekend for any film with a gross of Rs 76 crore, overtaking KGF 2's Rs 75.50 crore by a slender margin. All the major records at the Karnataka Box Office have been shared between the two films. Kantara: Chapter 1 registered the second-highest opening day in the state with Rs 22 crore, behind KGF 2's Rs 24.5 crore.
In Tamil Nadu, even with competition from a staight Tamil film in Idli Kadai, Kantara: Chapter 1 has taken a superb start that has taken full toll of exemplary reviews to register a superb four-day weekend. The Tamil Nadu gross is approximately Rs 28 crore and it is set to overtake the Dhanush-starrer in the coming days.
The trends are similar in North India where it has decimated Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, a straight Hindi film with its dubbed Hindi version. The Varun Dhawan-starrer has only managed Rs 31 crore nett in its four-day weekend. Meanwhile, Kantara: Chapter 1 has had a roaring start, netting Rs 71 crore in its opening weekend, with trends suggesting a strong lifetime number from Hindi belts.
The film is also doing excellent business in Kerala where the opening weekend gross is around Rs 22-23 crore. It took a sensational start on Day 1, grossing Rs 6.05 crore and after superb hold on Day 2, showed a superb trend acros the weekend with Day 4's numbers exceeding the opening day figure in the state. In the Telugu states, Kantara: Chapter 1 has grossed past Rs 50 crore, maintaining a similarly high tempo.
The overall India gross from four days is approximately Rs 266 crore from all languages. Overseas, the numbers haven't been as high but it has collected Rs 56 crore approximately abroad with some samples still to be reported.
