Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 on Thursday opened to rave reviews and is set to hit ₹100 crore on Day 1, according to box office reports. However, many of the Mohanlal fans are disappointed by his limited cameo in the second installment of the movie.
The issue came to the fore when Jailer 2 costume designer Jishad Shamsudeen flagged the issue on his Instagram handle. He pointed out that he was confident about his efforts in setting Mohanlal's looks, even when the trailer offered only a brief glimpse. The post reads, "To everyone who loves and supports me: With the release of Jailer 2, I want to share an important update!! Based on what was shot, I was completely confident in our work-even when reduced to a 2-second glimpse in the trailer.
The post was shared by Mohanlal Fans Club, which in another post showed five costumes that was chosen for Mohanlal. Shamsudeen expressed his disappointment over three of Mohanlal's looks were cut from the final version, including a scene that was shown in the trailer.
"But with the film's release, three of Mohanlal Sir's distinct looks were cut entirely, and even that trailer scene was trimmed out," he noted. "From my experience in cinema, trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal Sir is simply unnecessary."
“With the producers hinting that there will be Jailer 3, Shamsudeen said he would not be part of the third installment. "Seeing our superstar reduced like this, if there is a Sequel, I will not be a part of it. I am truly sorry to everyone who trusted me. I don't stand for favours, profits, crore clubs, or stardom. I stand solely for the fans, lovers of the craft, and Mohanlal Sir. Thank you for always standing by my journey," he added.
Fans who watched Jailer 2 in theatres on the opening day also wondered why Mohanlal's cameo was shorter than the first movie. Some of the fans urged the Malayalam actor not to be a part of Jailer 3.
One of them went on to call Rajinikanth as "the insecure Superstar". "Scared that Shivanna and Mohanlal might dominate Rajinikanth in his own film, so both their cameos had to be trimmed?" posted a user named Anantha Vishnu.
Another user urged the Malayalam actor to take a break from guest roles. "Kindly request Lalettan end this cameo nonsense," wrote a user named Jerry Raju.
Yet another user, Suraj Surendran, responded to Shamsudeen's post on X, saying, "Truly felt that. One of the reason of watching the movie today FDFS was to feel the LAL Sir screen presence. But in that part I truly gathered only disappointment from heart."
