After garnering praise from critics and audiences, Danny Boyle's '28 Years Later' will have its post-theatrical release on Netflix. The zombie horror thriller film, which released in India theatres on June 19, 2025, will begin streaming from Sept. 20.
'28 Years Later' is the first of a new trilogy, with no connections to '28 Weeks Later'. A couple of days back, the makers unveiled the first look trailer of the follow-up, titled '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple'.
'28 Years Later' also stars Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as its principal characters. Cillian Murphy, who led '28 Days Later', will make a brief appearance in '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' while Ralph Fiennes is expected to play a more prominent role in the new sequel. In an earlier interview with Variety, Boyle said that Murphy is expected to essay an “enormous character in the third film,” while revealing that the film will give O’Connell and Fiennes bigger things to do.
The film's official synopsis says, “In the world of ‘The Bone Temple,’ the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.”
'28 Years Later' has a story influenced by '28 Days Later' without directly following the events of '28 Weeks Later'. The film has a worldwide gross of $150.4 million against a $75 million budget. The first film, released in 2002, grossed an impressive $84.6 million against a $8 million budget.
