South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong, who got much worldwide notice for the 2018 Korean film Burning, is back after an eight-year hiatus. His new film, Possible Love, backed by Netflix, reunites him with that film's co-screenwriter, Oh Jung-mi, who is jointly writing this film too.

According to an official statement, Possible Love "follows the intertwined lives of two married couples leading completely opposite lives. As their worlds collide, fractures begin to appear in their daily existence."

Actress Jeon Do-yeon ("Kill Boksoon", "Revolver") plays the woman and actor Sul Kyung-gu ("A Normal Family", "Kill Boksoon") plays the husband from the first couple. Zo In-sung ("Moving", "Escape from Mogadishu") and Cho Yeo-jeong ("Parasite", "Hidden Face") play the second couple.

Produced by Pinehouse Film in association with Anonymous Content and NOWFILM Co Ltd, the film will be distributed by Netflix. It's unclear if the film will get a limited theatrical release before its worldwide streaming premiere.

A filmmaker with a distinct vision, Lee Chang-dong's films are marked by an introspective touch, with occasional long stretches of intimate character moments that give us a complete and, at times, slightly ambiguous picture of his characters. Burning, for instance, was inspired by the work of author Haruki Murakami. Chang-dong's other notable films include Peppermint Candy, Poetry, Oasis, and Green Fish.

All his films have won accolades in different corners of the globe, including multiple wins at Cannes. Burning had won the International Critics' Prize at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. Secret Sunshine fetched a Best Actress trophy at the 60th Cannes. Poetry won Best Screenplay at the 63rd Cannes.
