National award for Balayya's 'Bhagavanth Kesari'

Bhagavanth Kesari, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, won the national award for the best Telugu movie

Telugu action drama Bhagavanth Kesari, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna aka Balayya bagged the Best Telegu Film at the 71st National Film Awards.

The national awards were announced on Friday in Delhi.

Directed by Anil Ravipudi, Bhagavanth Kesari also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Sreeleela and Arjun Rampal along with Balayya.

The film had also won the Telangana Gaddar Film Award for the Third Best Feature Film.

The story follows Nelakonda Bhagavanth Kesari, an ex-prisoner who becomes the guardian of Vijayalakshmi (Viji) after her father's accidental death and tries to fulfill the father's wish of making her join the Indian Army.

The movie, which was released in 2023, had received mixed to positive reviews, with reviewers praising Balayya's performance and the action sequences.

Meanwhile, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan won the national award for the best actor for the movie Jawan. He shares the award with fellow Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey,  who won it for the film 12th Fail.
