The pool of presidential nominees shrank significantly after several withdrawals. Filmmaker Joy Mathew’s submission was rejected due to a missing signature on the affidavit. Veteran actor Jagadish dropped from the race in hopes of seeing a woman take the top post, though various reports suggest that there was bad blood between him and other members over comments he made against the previous executive committee. Actor Baburaj withdrew his nomination after he was scrutinised by other actors and filmmakers for submitting his name amid sexual assault allegations levied against him.

The AMMA elections are set to be held on August 15.
