A new Harry Potter series is on the way! The news brings a relief to Potterheads who have been kept on an excited wait for long. HBO took to Instagram, welcoming the new cast set to play the famed trio in the TV show.
After an open casting call by HBO, Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout were chosen to step into the shoes of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively. The announcement was accompanied by a picture of the three actors — smiling and squatting on grass, as they pose for the picture.
Executive producers Francisca Gardiner and Mark Mylod mention how the three actors were selected after an “extraordinary search” from the “tens of thousands” of children who attended the open casting call. "We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."
The upcoming series will be based on the seven popular books, each of which were turned into movies with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the titular roles. A press release also mentions that the series aims to be a “faithful adaptation” of the books, filled with “fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years”.
This April, HBO had also confirmed that John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu and Nick Frost would don the roles of Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape and Rubeus Hagrid, respectively. Further two guest roles have also been filled: Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, approved the new cast and expressed her excitement, “All three are wonderful. I couldn’t be happier.”
According to reports, the series is expected to debut in June 2026, 15 years after the release of the last film in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
