Audience favourite Lupin, on Netflix, is returning for a fourth season, filming of which has commenced, the makers confirmed. A contemporary adaptation of Maurice LeBlanc's popular book series featuring the "gentleman thief" Arsene Lupin, the fourth chapter of the French Netflix series will see Omar Sy (The Intouchables) reprising the titular character — a charming, sophisticated thief with a mysterious past.
For Sy, the character is close to his heart. Fans of the show found Sy's character endearing, someone worth rooting for. “I often say that Lupin is an extraordinary plaything. I find great joy in it every time,” he said in an official statement. "Together with Netflix, Carrousel, and Gaumont, we've invested the time needed to raise our ambitions and deliver even more surprises and enjoyment, both for us and the audience. The fresh energy from Carroussel Studios aligns perfectly with this vision. I'm eager to share the new episodes with as many people as possible.”
Created by George Kay jointly with François Uzan, Marie Roussin, Florent Meyer and Tigran Rosine, Lupin has Sy and Louis Leterrier involved as showrunners. The first three seasons fetched rave reviews from critics, with excellent scores on movie platforms. With his unique interpretation of a fictional character previously played by other actors, Sy has managed to imbue the character with a memorable quality in a way that no one else did before.
The show's appeal lies in the fact Lupin's actions are backed up by valid reasons that audiences can empathise with. Besides, fast-paced plotting, action sequences, numerous twists and turns, and cathartic events make for an immensely gripping escapist adventure worth bingeing.
