Gaurav Khanna beat four other finalists in a high-voltage culinary battle to bag the coveted title

The first season of Celebrity Masterchef India has concluded on Friday with television actor Gaurav Khanna emerging victorious after beating four other contestants in a tough finale to win the title, a cash prize of Rs 20 lakhs, and premium kitchen appliances.

After presenting viewers week-upon-week of mouthwatering culinary drama, the grand finale, which was aired on Sony Entertainment Television at 8PM, saw the top five finalists Gaurav Khanna, Tejasswi Prakash, Faisal Shaikh, Rajiv Adatia, and Nikki Tamboli pour their hearts out onto their plates to win.

In a heartwarming video message played just before he submitted his final dish, an emotional Khanna's parents wished him all the luck in the world, and made a request to judge Farah Khan, asking her to feed him a spoon of sweetened yogurt for good luck, a cute gesture laden with love and tradition. 

The episode also featured celebrity chef and entrepreneur Sanjeev Kapoor, the chief guest for the finale episode, offering finalist Tejasswi Prakash his contact card, expressing his interest in helping her pursue her dreams of becoming opening a  Michelin-star restaurant. Chef Vikas Khanna, however, had to leave for New York due to an emergency at his restaurant.

She went on to become the second runner-up just behind Nikki Tamboli, the first runner-up, both of whom cooked up a storm were praised for the bold, unapologetic flavours they used.

The Masterchef India spin-off show, which first aired on January 25, had two members from the original show — Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar — return as judges, with director and choreographer Farah Khan as the third judge.
