Those who have spent way too much time on the internet — in the comments section of a newly released music video of any woman who is not named Nora Fatehi, or in the Reddit gossip sections — would've seen posts or comments with the caption, "She can eat 100 Noras for breakfast," or any other title comparing the new song and the dance moves in it to Nora's.
The popular Bollywood personality, known for her electrifying moves, has called out "ridiculous" PR-orchestrated tactics — often at the behest of another actress — to bring her down or make it seem like her career is done for good.
"When a new song is coming out, they are like, 'Let's compare it to Nora,' and I don't like that," she said in an interview with BBC. "All of the PR agencies are doing it. They'll be like, 'Nora's career is over', or, 'She can eat 100 Noras for breakfast.' I know who's behind this, and I know how much you have to pay to do that. I get a lot of PR packages convincing me to do the same, but I'm not doing that. I won’t compare myself to anybody. I'm not bringing anyone else down. If a song is supposed to work, they're going to praise me for my talent. They're not going to be excited to replace another talent. That’s just ridiculous."
Nora recalled that brief time when she had an ankle injury and was confined to rest for three months, and she started seeing these 'Nora' captions whenever someone released a new song. She admits to liking some of them, without naming them, but found others "diabolical" and "degenerate". She observed how some actresses paid their PR agencies to do a side-by-side comparison to say things like, "Nora is done" and make themselves seem like "the new Nora".
"Stay in your lane and be nice about it. Be respectful. Let's respect each other's work," said the Canada-born actress and dancer.
Meanwhile, Nora is appearing alongside Abhishek Bachchan in the Remo D'Souza-directed dance movie, Be Happy, in which Abhishek plays a single father learning to dance to make his daughter happy.
Nora's recent music video, 'Snake', with American musician Jason Derulo, has already crossed 100+ million views on YouTube. It marked her first mainstream work with an American artist.
