Almost four months after the death of former One Direction member Liam Payne, his girlfriend Kate Cassidy opened up about the shocking death for the first time. Cassidy, who has been linked with Liam since 2022, said that she still has not grasped Payne’s absence, and was glad she did not find out about his death through social media.
Speaking to The Sun, the influencer said, “It still doesn’t feel fully real for me that he’s not here. I’m trying to be the best I can be, but I feel like my life has changed so much. I think about Liam every second of every day... You don’t think about the worst possible thing that can happen.”

Elucidating to the publication on how she found out about his death, Cassidy said, “I feel blessed I didn’t find out over social media because I just couldn’t even imagine that. I was in our home with our dog, scrolling TikTok and one of Liam’s friends called me. That moment, it’s like blank; it’s blacked out in my head. I didn’t believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumour... Then instantly I just had a bad feeling in my gut. I was like, ‘Why would somebody make this up? Is this true?’ And I feel like I just completely blacked out. When I officially found the news to be true, I felt numb. I tried to call him. I called pretty much everybody.”
“We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive... It’s genuinely insane to me how things can just be taken away from you so quickly in life, you never truly know what tomorrow will bring, you never know,” she added.
The British singer was found dead on the grounds of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16, 2024, after a fall from the balcony of his hotel room on the third floor. Though officials assumed it was a suicide at first, toxicology tests found hallucinogenic drugs in Payne's system, including alcohol, cocaine and anti-depressants. An Argentine court has indicted five individuals over Payne's death, with charges including negligent homicide and narcotics distribution
