The much-awaited third instalment in director James Cameron’s hit Avatar movies, titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, was all the rage at the Disney D23 Brazil convention on Sunday, with the unveiling of new concept art. The event also saw major updates from the Disney arm Marvel Studios, as it gave us a new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.

The maker of Titanic joined the D23 event in Brazil through live video from New Zealand and provided five new pieces of early concept art from the 2025 slated Avatar 3. This movie follows the Sully family led by characters portrayed by Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, and is set to introduce more creatures and clans to the diverse fictional world of Pandora. Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to open to movie screens on December 19, 2025.

The second movie that released in 2022, Avatar: The Way of Water, was set 16 years after the events of the first movie, and it showed us what happened to Worthington’s Jake Sully and Saldana’s Neytiri. Fire and Ash will also see the return of Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adopted daughter, and Kate Winslet as spiritual leader Ronal. However, the much anticipated Michelle Yeoh’s debut as Dr Karina Mogue may not happen until the fourth movie. The untitled fourth and fifth instalments are set to be released in December 2029 and December 2031, respectively.

Marvel steps it up with new trailers

Marvel has not picked up the buck and delivered us a clear hit since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, and they hope to do is with Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.

The new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World featured more of Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk and a quick glimpse of Giancarlo Esposito’s mysterious baddie Sidewinder. Marvel also released the cinematic poster for the same.

Marvel Studios’ new film with an updated ensemble of misfits called Thunderbolts* got an extended trailer at D23 Brazil. The major characters, played by Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus got considerable screentime in the new trailer.

At the event, Marvel head Kevin Feige also confirmed the delayed arrival of Miles Morales’s Spider-Man in the MCU. “Miles will appear in the third ‘Spider-Verse’ movie, which is in production. I hope that, shortly after that, he can enter the MCU in live-action,” he said.

Since Sony’s third instalment to the Spider-Verse film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is facing delays, we might not get a live-action Morales till 2027.

Apart from these, Marvel also confirmed the veteran X-Men member Storm’s debut in What If...? Season 3 on Disney+.
