Patrick Dempsey has been named Sexiest Man Alive for 2023 by People Magazine. Dempsey is best known for playing a neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd in the popular series Grey's Anatomy. Dempsey’s selection was made known on Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
In 2022, Captain America actor Chris Evans was named People's Sexiest Man Alive. Evans married his girlfriend Alba Baptista in October this year. Dempsey has also starred in the Enchanted movies and Bridget Jones's Baby. Dempsey is also a race car driver, who has taken part in the prestigious Le Mans 24-Hour endurance race.
On being chosen the sexiest man alive, Dempsey told People, “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right?”. “It’s nice to have the recognition,” he added. Other recipients of the title include John Legend, Michael B. Jordan, Paul Rudd, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth, Richard Gere, Channing Tatum and David Beckham.
“It gives me the platform to use it for something positive,” said Dempsey, who founded the Dempsey Centre in honour of his late mother to support cancer patients and their families. He is married to make-up artist Jillian and has three children--Talula, 21, and 16-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby.
Ferrari starring Adam Driver and Patrick Dempsey is set to release in December. Dempsey will essay the role of Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi. The movie is directed by Micheal Mann and stars Penelope Cruz.
