The daughter of actor and music composer Vijay Antony allegedly died by suicide. She was 16. She was found dead at her home in Teynampet, Chennai. Meera was taken to a hospital in Mylapore but was declared dead by doctors.
Film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan broke the news on social media platform X. “BREAKING: Actor and music director Vijay Antony's daughter Meera has committed suicide… at her home this morning. SHOCKING! RIP Meera."
Condolences have poured in from over since the tweet. Actor Jayam Ravi wrote, “It’s heartbreaking to hear about the loss of your daughter @vijayantony brother To all the children out there, please know that you are cherished, valued, and never alone. We are living only for ur happiness and love Life is full of ups and downs, and you have the power to overcome the challenges… Whatever share with parents we r there to face for u RIP Meera”
Actor R Sarath Kumar wrote, “The news of the untimely and unfortunate demise of Meera, the daughter of @vijayantony and Fatima is shocking beyond imaginations. No amount of consoling and condolences can replace the everlasting grief of Vijay Antony and Fatima. Vijay, I hope the almighty gives strength to your family to bear this unfathomable loss. May her soul rest in peace #RIPMeera”.

Meera was reportedly being treated for depression. Vijay Antony, his family and Meera's friends will be questioned as part of the investigation. She was a Class 12 student and was battling stress. Vijay Antony's father died of suicide too, when Vijay was seven years old.
In a recent interview, he addressed depression and suicide rates among students. “More and more people have this thought because of the difficulty of money. Some people feel like ending their lives when someone cheats on the person they trusted the most in life. In the case of children, the reason is the extra stress caused by studies. As soon as the children come from school, the tuition is sent immediately. They are not even given time to think. Let them think for a while. And to tell a few adults, if you can love yourself without thinking about other people’s success and money, that will be the happy thing.”
