A day after advance bookings opened for Bollywood's multilingual mythological drama Adipurush, approximately 50,000 tickets have been sold in theatres across the country. The Om Raut directorial, an adaptation of the Ramayana, will hit the big screens on Friday.

Featuring Prabhas, Kirti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, the film has already earned Rs 1-2 crore from advance bookings in theaatres and multiplex chains, the Indian Express reported.

The team recently announced that one seat in every theatre will be kept reserved for Lord Hanuman. Director Raut said that it is believed “Hanuman is present every time the Ramayana is read or showcased.” In the film, actor Devdutt Nage will be seen as Lord Hanuman. The film features Prabhas as Raghav, Kriti as Janaki and Saif as the antagonist Lankesh.

Meanwhile, this also triggered rumours that the seats close to the seat reserved for Hanuman will be overpriced. The film's production company refuted the runours and issued a clarification on Twitter. “There are misleading reports circulating in the media regarding #Adipurush ticket pricing. We want to clarify that there will be no differences in rates for seats next to the one reserved for Hanuman Ji! Don’t fall for false information! Jai Shri Ram!,” they tweeted.

The film was earlier scheduled for a January 2023 release, but was pushed because the VFX team needed more time to work on the film. In fact, the film's first teaser received massive criticism and was trolled on social media for the poor quality of its visual effects. The film will have its international premiere on Tuesday at the 2023 edition of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

Adipurush also triggered a controversy after a section of social media users alleged that the film hurt sentiments of Hindus by allegedly misrepresenting deities.
